Doggy...

I combed half a dog's worth of hair out of Eddie this evening. Its winter. But he is *still* moulting all over the settee when I stroke him! Doggy bath time methinks...

In other dog news, we suspect lactose intolerance may be behind his recent episodes of sickness. We are doing food elimination to confirm/deny, and since we stopped lactose he has been fine. Sulking at breakfast time because he isnt getting the yoghurt pot or the milk left from cereal, but not sicky. This is good, and the sulking will pass.

After three days on turkey and rice and vegetables, today we have reintroduced dog kibble as mixer with the cooked meat. So fingers crossed that doesnt set him off. If it does, its not lactose and its back to the vet for blood tests and nasty scans no doggy wants.

I'd rather it was lactose intolerance than some of the other options, and is apparently quite common in dogs. He's had a loose tummy ever since we've had him, but equally he's also always had yoghurt pots to lick and small pieces of cheese as treats.

I think pancreatitis is very unlikely - thats usually associated with dogs on low quality food, whereas Eddie has high quality kibble mixed with home cooked meat (because most commercial dog meat is crap) with occasional uses of the higher quality commercial dog meats when away or in kennels (and when I do buy dog meat I buy the quality stuff that isnt bulked with rubbish, and the kennel follow our feeding instructions).

Spoiled? Maybe a little. But generally very healthy, apart from these recent episodes of sickness. Even the vets examining him have commented on his good condition.

So ultimately, lactose intolerance would be a win.
